BREAKING: Rottinghaus Wins Floyd County District 2 Supervisor Seat By Two Votes

By just two votes, a former Floyd County Treasurer is set to become the newest member of the Floyd County Board of Supervisors.
Tuesday’s (09.23) “special election” for the District 2 Supervisor seat in Floyd County saw unofficial results show Democrat Frank Rottinghaus edging out Republican Joshua Neupert by a count of 275 ballots for Rottinghaus to 273 votes for Neupert.
Independent candidates Aaron Hobert and Doug Lindaman finished third and fourth with 132 and 24 votes respectively.
Only eligible voters in District 2, which includes all of Charles City north of the Cedar River, plus the part of St. Charles Township north of the city, could vote in the special election.
Including absentee ballots, a total 705 voters out of 3,218 registered voters in the district cast ballots, a turnout of almost 22%.
The results of the election will not be official until they are canvassed and certified by the Board of Supervisors, which is set for 10 am next Tuesday (09.30).
The District 2 Supervisor seat was opened by the passing of former Supervisor Dennis Keifer in June. In July, Neupert was appointed to fill Keifer’s seat. Despite Neupert’s appointment, a petition of eligible voters in District 2 was filed to force the special election.
Neupert will continue to serve as the appointed supervisor until voting results are certified. If the results stand, Rottinghaus, who was Floyd County Treasurer for some 20 years, will serve out the remainder of Keifer’s term, which runs until the end of 2026.
