Charles City Man Back in Custody in Cerro Gordo County Jail, Faces New Charge

A Charles City man who failed to report back to a Mason City residential facility over the weekend is back in custody.
The Iowa Department of Corrections issued an advisory Monday (09.08) morning that 38-year-old Dean Naeve had not reported back to the Beje Clark Residential Facility as required. But he’s back behind bars now.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Jail log, Naeve was booked into the jail shortly after 11 pm Monday night.
Naeve has been staying at the residential facility, where he was admitted on July 18th.
Court records show Naeve was convicted last August in Floyd County on one count of administering harmful substances, a Class D felony, and domestic abuse assault – second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Those charges stemmed from his March 2024 arrest by Charles City Police after Naeve grabbed, pushed and repeatedly jabbed his finger into the forehead of his female victim, as well as emptying several capsules of a chronic pain medication and other pills into her coffee and forcing her to take a drink. When she refused to drink more, he poured it down her throat, making her sick, which required medical attention.
With his absence from the residential facility over the weekend, Naeve now faces a new charge of escape from custody – felon, a Class D felony. He is being held without bond and scheduled for a preliminary hearing September 19th in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
