Downtown Charles City Fire Caused by Electrical Issues, Could’ve Been Worse

It was two weeks ago Saturday (09.06) that fire crews from six departments battled a structure fire in downtown Charles City.
But they weren’t the only ones responding to the scene.
That’s Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson, who commends firefighters for keeping the fire contained to the building that formerly housed The Main Event at 108 North Main Street.
Anderson says they were also fortunate that someone shared what they saw with the authorities.
Charles City Fire Chief Sam Deverell says the initial 911 fire call came about 5:30 pm on the night of August 23rd. Mutual aid was called in from Colwell, Floyd, Rockford, Marble Rock, Nora Springs and Osage fire departments, with close to 40 firefighters battling the blaze for about three-and-a-half hours.
Anderson says there was nothing suspicious about the fire’s origin, which Deverell says their investigation determined that the fire was caused by electrical issues.
Also assisting were the Charles City street and water departments, Floyd County Communications Center, Floyd County Search & Rescue, AMR Ambulance, and MidAmerican Energy.
