Mother Nature Puts North Iowa Road, Bridge Construction Crews to the Test

Mother Nature put north Iowa road and bridge construction crews to the test last week.

Pete Hjelmstad is with the Iowa DOT’s Mason City District office. He says the challenges began early in the week with flooding on August 18th.

Meanwhile, there was yet another “floating roadblock” downstream, so to speak.

Hjelmstad says crews had hoped to set the beams for that bridge last week, but that has now been pushed back this week.

It’s all more instances of weather winning out this summer.
