Flood Warnings for Cedar, Winnebago, Upper Iowa Rivers
National Weather Service La Crosse…FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT TO EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON for the Cedar River at Charles City.
At 2:00 PM CDT Monday the stage was 6 feet. Bankfull stage is 9 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage just after midnight tonight to a crest of 13.5 feet Tuesday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage of 12 feet early Wednesday morning. This crest compares to a previous crest of 13.7 feet on 03/19/1986.
National Weather Service Des Moines…FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON TO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING for the Winnebago River at Mason City, or from Beaver Creek near Fertile to the Shell Rock River near Rockford.
At 12 feet, widespread flooding occurs along the river. Some backwater effects are possible along Willow Creek between downtown Mason City and the confluence with the Winnebago river.
At 10:45 AM CDT Monday the stage was 9.6 feet, with the river expected to rise above flood stage this afternoon to a crest of 11.9 feet early tomorrow afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage of 10 feet Thursday evening.
National Weather Service La Crosse…FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING TO TOMORROW MORNING for the Upper Iowa River at Decorah.
At 12 feet, residential areas are threatened on the west edge of Decorah just before the levee protecting the town begins. Some agricultural flooding may also occur.
At 1:45 PM CDT Monday the stage was 10 feet. Bankfull stage is 11 feet. The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12 feet this evening, which is flood stage.This crest compares to a previous crest of 11.9 feet on 06/10/2018.
National Weather Service La Crosse…FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM THIS AFTERNOON TO WEDNESDAY MORNING for the Upper Iowa River at Dorchester Hwy 76.
At 2:00 PM CDT Monday the stage was 16.3 feet, which was the maximum river stage in the previous 24 hours ending at 2:00…The river is expected to rise to a crest of 18.9 feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage of 14 feet tomorrow evening. .This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.0 feet on 09/06/1946.
Additionally, a FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CDT THIS EVENING (08.18) for portions of Iowa, Floyd, Mitchell, Allamakee, Chickasaw, Howard and Winneshiek counties.
Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. At just after 1 pm Monday, local law enforcement reported many roads closed or water covered and flooding along creeks and streams. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain fell this morning.
