City of Charles City Online Payment System Issues Close to Resolution

The City of Charles City’s issues with its online portal payment system may be coming to an end soon.

The City has been working to transition to a new payment platform since the end of May, but the process has been met with various technical hurdles along the way. However, City Clerk Brittany Lentz says the move to the FrontDesk program, administered through G Works, is close to being resolved.

Lents says the City will be mailing out a postcard to all utility customers with instructions on the new payment portal as well as posting information on the City website and social media platforms.

Those customers with online payment through ACH are still able to do so, but no new ACH accounts can be established until FrontDesk is available.

In the meantime, patrons can mail payment to the City, pay at Hy-Vee service desk by providing a copy of your bill, or pay in person at the temporary City Hall location at 507 Clark Street, which is also now home to the drop box that was formerly on the west side of the City Hall.

Moving the drop box  was necessitated by the renovation work going on the permanent City Hall/police department. Mayor Dean Andrews says the relocation has been advantageous to all parties.

Completion of the City Hall/PD renovation project is targeted for Spring 2026.
