Charles City Taking Applications to Fill Open Council Seat, Deadline Monday (08.11)

The City of Charles City is looking to appoint a successor to the council seat vacated by Keith Starr, who resigned July 31st due to increased demands of his full-time job.
During Monday’s (08.04) City Council meeting, Mayor Dean Andrews went through the timeline to name Starr’s successor.
Whoever is appointed will have to decide if they want the position on a temporary or full-time basis.
That won’t be the only council post on the November 4th ballot. The seats of both Councilmen DeLaine Freeseman and Patrick Lumley are also up for election. The Mayor’s seat is also up for election this year.
Even with an appointment to fill Starr’s vacant council seat, any eligible voter in Charles City could file a petition to force a special election.
*As of 8 am Friday (08.08), City Clerk Brittney Lentz said two applications had been received.
Meanwhile, the City is also now taking applications for its next permanent city administrator. Advertising for candidates to submit their applications officially began August 1st, including an ad now posted on www.cityofcharlescity.org.
The City’s timeline has an application deadline of 4 pm September 3rd and calls to have a new city administrator starting sometime in November.
