New Hampton Police Look for Suspicious Person/Vehicle; K9 Begins Training

New Hampton Police were unable to locate a suspicious person/vehicle reported in town about 4 pm Tuesday (08.05) afternoon.
A citizen’s Facebook post indicated a female subject was parked outside their house for an extended period of time, with the woman also allegedly approaching anyone including children.
Chief of Police Conrad Rosendahl says by the time NHPD had received a call about the woman and the vehicle, a search of the area was unable to find her and it’s believed that she left town, headed east on Main Street. Rosendahl says NHPD ran the vehicle license plate and that they have information on who the female is and where she is from. No other details were released.
Meanwhile, the NHPD’s new K9 officer has also left town, so to speak. Rosendahl says Ozcar started training on Monday (08.04), minus a handler, which remains undecided. Also undecided is the hiring of an officer to fill an open position created with the resignation of Officer Darby Stone a month ago.
Rosendahl says he has a handful of applicants for consideration, with physical testing (PT) for those candidates slated for Thursday (08.07), the first step in the hiring process. Ones who pass PT will then go through interviews and background checks. Since none of the candidates are certified officers, anyone who is hired would then go through Iowa law enforcement academy training.
