Charles City Hires Interim City Administrator

The City of Charles City has an interim city administrator.

During Monday (07.07) night’s City Council meeting, Dan Gifford was approved to take over the post that was vacated with the departure of Steve Diers, who began his new job as city administrator in Clear Lake on Monday. 

Gifford has prior experience as city administrator in Spencer before he retired. 

Gifford’s agreement includes him working three days a week in Charles City with the other two days a week being available via zoom or phone, for about 30 hours total per week. His salary is $2,000  a week, plus $200 a week mileage stipend.

Gifford’s first day on the job was Tuesday (07.08).

The Council has also approved Hinson Consulting to begin advertising for the permanent city administrator post with a salary between $135,000 to $145,000. The City looks to have a new city administrator to start by November 1st.
