Committee Appoints Neupert to Fill Open Floyd County Supervisor Seat

A new supervisor has been appointed to the Floyd County Board of Supervisors.
Former District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer passed away in June at the age of 73. The County opted to appoint someone to fill Keifer’s seat and serve out the remainder of his term, which runs until the end of 2026.
A committee consisting of County Auditor Morrigan Montagne (formerly Miller), County Recorder Amy Assink, and County Treasurer Jessie Holm met in special session Monday (07.07) morning to review applications for the open seat.
Montagne recognized the five candidates who submitted applications.
Each candidate was allowed to make statements regarding their interest and qualifications for the District 2 seat, which includes all of Charles City, north of the Cedar River, plus the part of St. Charles Township that is north of the city.
The committee voted unanimously to appoint Josh Neupert.
Neupert, who ran unsuccessfully for the City Council of Charles City in 2023, said he had approval from his employers, Cambrex and AMR Ambulance, to pursue the supervisor post.
Even with Nuepert’s appointment, eligible voters in District 2 can file a petition to force a special election. The petition will need at least 257 signatures and be filed within 14 days of the appointment.
Neupert was sworn into office following Monday’s meeting and he attended his first Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday (07.08) morning.
