Running Friday (07.04), Biking Saturday (07.05) During Charles City Fourth Celebration

The annual Charley Western Firecracker 5K race, organized by the Main Street Charles City program, is the first up on Friday’s Fourth of July activity list.

Mayor Dean Andrews says proceeds from the event go towards repair and improvements of the community’s recreational trail.

Participants can register at the Main Street Charles City office or Friday morning at the high school track beginning at 6:30 am. The race begins 7:30 am, with a free kids run at 8:30 am.

Saturday’s activities begin with the annual Charles City Bike Ride at 8 am taking off from the First Security Bank & Trust parking lot, with registration for $5 starting at 7:30 am.

Organizer Dick Neal says riders will have their choice of three routes, depending on how far they want to travel.

NNeal says the ride, which started in 1992, offers a good tune-up for RAGBRAI.
