North Iowa State Legislator to Seek Reelection, Won’t Run for Governor

A north Iowa state representative says he will not run for Governor, but will run for reelection to another term in Des Moines.

Pat Grassley of New Hartford, who’s been House Speaker for the past five years, was among several Republicans who said they considered a run for governor after Governor Kim Reynolds announced in April that she would not seek reelection.

Grassley said in a newsletter sent to House District 57, which includes all of Butler County and the northwest third of Bremer County, including Waverly, that Republicans have accomplished priorities like lowering taxes, “strengthening our schools (and) passing common-sense protections for children,” but there’s “still more to do.”

Grassley said the best way to serve the constituents in his district is to continue to represent them in the statehouse.

He was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2006.

Pat Grassley is the grandson of U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley and farms with his father, Robin, on land near New Hartford.
