Chickasaw County to Enter FY25-26 in Good Financial Shape

Putting together the budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026 in Chickasaw County was an arduous process as officials worked to cut costs and expenditures by over $1 million, which resulted in some reductions in staff and services.

The goal was to leave the County with a preferred 25% ending fund balance by June 30, 2026, to cover operating costs at the start of the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

During Monday’s (06.30) Supervisors meeting, Board Chair Jacob Hackman said, based on final claims to be paid for the ‘24-25 fiscal year which ended June 30th, it appears the County will have some decent money to carry over to FY25-26.

County Attorney David Laudner encouraged Supervisors to share that news in a format that is presentable and digestible to the public.

Laudner added that such a report would also allay some public fears.

Hackman said the County is not broke and would not be broke even if departments had spent every dollar they were allotted in FY24-25.

Hackman also noted that before they can know exactly how much money they’ll be able to carry over to FY25-26, there’s payroll and health insurance that also must be paid out for the final months of FY24-25.
