“No Kings” Rally Held in Charles City

Upwards of 100 people attended a “No Kings” rally in Charles City’s Central Park Saturday (06.14) evening.

India May, who has launched a campaign to face Republican Charley Thomson of Charles City in the next election for House District 58, led the group in a protest against policies and actions of the Trump administration.

The rally included a 15-minute march from the park through downtown Charles City and back.

Afterwards, May said she only expected about 20 people to show up Saturday, so attendance exceeded her expectations for the non-violent demonstration.  Other than a couple of vehicles passing by shouting their support of the president, the rally was peaceful.

At “No Kings” rallies Saturday in Osage and Cresco, Mitchell and Howard County Democratic officials respectively estimated about 70 people at each event. Rallies were also held in Decorah, Waverly, Waterloo and Mason City.
