Iowa Move Over Law Emphasis of Three-Day Traffic Enforcement Starting Tuesday (06.17)
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is partnering with the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force (CITSTF) and law enforcement across Iowa this Tuesday (06.17), Wednesday(06.18), and Thursday(06.19) to educate drivers about the importance of yielding to vehicles on the shoulder of the road displaying flashing lights.
Trooper Tom Williams is with the Mason City District office of the Iowa State Patrol. He says to expect to see extra law enforcement on the road looking for those in violation of Iowa’s Move Over Law.
Williams says keeping distractions in your vehicle to a minimum will help you concentrate on the road ahead.
Williams adds that there are a variety of flashing lights who should move over for.
The GTSB says there have been numerous cases in Iowa and nationwide that resulted in traffic fatalities due to a driver not moving over. In 2011, Hanifen Towing, operating in the greater Des Moines area, lost two employees on the job due to driver failure to move over.
The Move Over Law has been in effect in Iowa since 2002.
