Changes in Life Habits Can Impact Mental Health of Seniors

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Jessica Perry is director of Senior Life Solutions, which provides mental health services for older adults through Mitchell County Regional Health in Osage and MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center.

She says changes in life habits can lead to emotional struggles for seniors.

Perry notes there are multiple signs someone you know could be having a hard time emotionally, regardless of age.

If someone you know is struggling with their mental health, Senior Life Solutions’ Ashley Evans suggests a practical approach to talking with him or her about your concerns.

If you or a loved one is in need of help, Evans recommends reaching out to a professional. If you’re unsure where to begin, perhaps talk to your regular doctor or your pastor who can help you connect with the proper resources.
