“Click It Don’t Risk” sTEP Underway for Memorial Day Weekend Continues

Local law enforcement agencies across Iowa are again teaming up for the latest Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) special traffic enforcement program (sTEP) targeting the Memorial Day Weekend.

Trooper Tom Williams is with the Iowa State Patrol’s Mason City district office. He says the “Click It Don’t Risk” sTEP, emphasizes seat belt use, or lack thereof, citing numbers through May 15th.

Williams says excuses for not wearing your seatbelt is no excuse.

Williams says their targets for buckling up isn’t just on drivers.

Also participating in the latest sTEP are the Charles City and New Hampton police departments, plus the Floyd and Chickasaw County sheriff’s office. All will be increasing their presence now through June 1st.

Williams also notes that the Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of the “100 deadliest days of summer” on Iowa’s roadways.
