Charles City Police Investigate Rash of Vehicle Break-Ins

Charles City Police are seeking the public’s help as they investigate multiple vehicle break-ins and other thefts over the weekend.
A Charles City Police Department (CCPD) Facebook message posted Monday (05.12) reads, “We had several vehicle burglaries this past weekend during the overnight. The CCPD is trying to identify the person in this video. If you might recognize the person or the clothing, please contact Officer Beaver at 257-6303.”
The post includes a Ring doorbell video, about 20-seconds in length, which appears to show a subject dressed in jeans, zip-up hoodie sweatshirt and a facemask-type stocking cap covering most of the face, except for the nose and eyes. The suspect is seen closing the door to a vehicle in the driveway and carrying a backpack, though it’s unclear if the backpack was stolen from the vehicle. The suspect then attempts to open a door to the residence, but finds it to be locked and then he or she walks away.
CCPD received calls Sunday about possible thefts from vehicles in the 200 block of 5th Avenue, the 200 block of 8th Avenue, and the 200 block of 7th Avenue, where two bikes were also stolen while another stolen bike was left at the scene. That bike appears to have been the bicycle that was reported stolen earlier from the 200 block of 3rd Avenue.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Charles City Police.
