BREAKING: Body of Missing North Iowa 19-Year-Old Found

A North Iowa 19-year-old, reported missing over two weeks ago, has been found deceased.

The Mason City Police Department (MCPD) started working a missing persons case involving Dominic Garrett of Mason City after he was reported missing by his family on April 4th. Garrett was last seen wearing black and red plaid pajamas and multicolored Brooks tennis shoes. He was not in possession of a cell phone or other electronic device at the time he was last seen.

Shortly after 2 pm Saturday (04.19), MCPD was called to a report of a body in the Winnebago River at East Park in Mason City. Officers arrived on scene and worked with the Mason City Fire Department to remove a body from the river.

In a statement, Police Chief Jeff Brinkley said, “While the formal identification and autopsy are yet to be completed, the preliminary information points to this being Dominic Garrett’s remains. Notification has been made to the family. Foul play is not suspected in Garrett’s disappearance.”

MCPD is continuing its investigation and will work with the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner as they make a ruling as to cause and manner of death.

Anyone in the community with information about Garrett’s disappearance or whereabouts since April 4th is asked to call Mason City Police at 641-421-3636 and speak with Investigations.
