Supervisors Approve FY25-26 Chickasaw County Budget

After months of discussions on ways to trim costs and keep the County on solid financial ground, the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors has approved the County’s 2025-2026 fiscal year budget.

Supervisors held a public hearing on the budget on Monday (04.15), with Board Chair Jacob Hackman noting it was a long, challenging process.

Among the biggest cuts was about $350,000 from the Public Health department, which will mean reduced homecare services, to the consternation of some constituents.

While homecare services generate revenue for the County, the gap between that income and the cost of providing the services has widened to over $400,000 this fiscal year, which must be made up by tax dollars. To reduce the operating budget, the Public Health Board opted largely to reduce staff.

Hackman noted that non-profit and non-county entities will also feel the cuts.

After the public hearing, Supervisors unanimously approved the FY25-26 budget.

With passage, the property tax rate for the General Supplemental budget will be $1.85 per $1,000 of taxable valuation , the Rural Services Basic tax rate will be $3.50, with the General Basic tax rate holding at $3.50. All will take effect when the new fiscal year starts July 1st
