Survey on Failed 2023 Charles City High School Bond Referendum Closes Monday (04.07)

The Charles City School District has contracted with FEH Design to help with putting a bond referendum before voters this November to address school facility needs, perhaps including a performing arts center.
In preparation for a bond referendum, an online survey is now available for stakeholders to weigh in on why they didn’t vote in favor of or why they felt the $28.5 million bond referendum in November 2023 failed to pass.
During a workshop session with the School Board last month, FEH’s Chris Wand said they hope to get relevant feedback from the survey.
The post bond referendum online survey closes Monday (04.07) and is available at www.charlescityschools.org. A link to the survey is also included here.
FEH’s Matt Basye said their target is to have the parameters of a bond referendum to the School Board by early June.
Last month, the Charles City School Board also voted unanimously to issue $4 million in Infrastructure Sales, Services and Use Tax Revenue Bonds to pay for improvements at the High School, including HVAC and electrical improvements, plumbing in the Art Room, and bathrooms for ADA Compliance.
Basye says that will allow the district to “lower the ask” for a bond referendum, though no dollar amount has been established to this point.
