Floyd County Medical Center Opens National Donate Life Month with Annual Ceremony

Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) kicked off “National Donate Life Month” with its annual “Donate Life” ceremony Tuesday (04.01).
During the event in the Veterans Room of the Charles City hospital, FCMC CEO Dawnett Willis noted they work with the Iowa Donor Network to bring organ donors and recipients together.
Guest of honor Roxanne Meek shared her story of being an organ donor, after having one of her kidneys removed on January 15th.
Meek said she still doesn’t know who received her kidney for transplant.
Marilyn Venz also shared the story of her husband, Ron, who is a kidney transplant recipient.
Normally, FCMC’s Donate Life service includes a ceremonial flag-raising of the Donate Life flag. However, due to the construction of the new clinic, FCMC’s flagpole had to be removed, but construction teams working on the hospital expansion placed the flag on the corner of the roof of what will eventually be the new FCMC clinic.
National Donate Life Month is held in April every year to raise awareness about organ donation, as well as honor those who saved lives through the gift of organ donation.
