Longtime Chickasaw County Firefighter, EMT Passes Away

Officials in Chickasaw County are mourning the death of a longtime firefighter and EMT.
That’s Supervisor Jacob Hackman during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting asking for silence on behalf of Brock Schmidt. According to a Chickasaw County EMS Facebook post on Sunday (03.23), the 41-year-old Schmidt played an integral part in forming the County-run ambulance service.
The post adds, “Brock proudly served the citizens of Chickasaw County for over 17 years as a Firefighter and EMT in multiple departments. In Brock’s career, he made a positive impact on countless lives, and we are all better people for having known him.”
No details have been released on the cause of death, but according to the obituary by Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton, Schmidt “died unexpectedly on Saturday (03.22) while on call serving his community at Chickasaw County EMS in New Hampton.”
Chickasaw County EMS added this Facebook post Tuesday (03.25), “Today we will be bringing our Brother Brock back home to New Hampton. If you would like to honor our Brother, we are expecting the procession to be going down Main Street past the high school to Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home between 2:45-3:00 (pm). Please check back to this post this afternoon, we will make an edit if there is a change in route or time.”
Funeral services for Schmidt are 10:30 am Monday (03.31) at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Visitation is 2 to 5 pm Sunday (03.30) at Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home with memory sharing starting at 5 pm.
A Meal Train account has been established for Brock Schmidt’s family with a goal of $2,500. As of 7 am Tuesday, monetary donations had reached past $1,000. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Rev. Dan Christansen officiating.
Friends may greet the family from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton, with memory sharing beginning at 5:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to services at the church in New Hampton on Monday.
