Decorah Advances to Top Eight in International Strongest Town Contest

A Northeast Iowa community is one of eight towns advancing to the next round of competition in the Tenth Annual Strongest Town Competition.
Decorah was recently selected from dozens of applications across the country to be one of 16 towns to compete in the Tenth Annual Strongest Town Contest, hosted every year by Strong Towns, a nonprofit media advocacy organization. Towns are chosen based on how each prioritizes housing, transportation, and fiscal resiliency for its people.
Competing towns are matched up in a single-elimination bracket-style format, with four rounds of competition throughout the month of March. Winners advance based on votes from the public and thousands of existing Strong Town community members.
Decorah advances after receiving more votes than Warrenville, Illinois, on the topic of ‘Transparent Local Accounting.’
The contest gives communities like Decorah the chance to showcase their strength and resilience and show the country what they are doing to make their town stronger and better.
Decorah represents Iowa and needs votes to advance and win. Voting opened Monday (03.17) at strongesttown.com.
