MiEnergy Cooperative Issues Peak Energy Alert for Friday (02.21)

MiEnergy Cooperative has issued a Peak Alert for Friday (02.21) due to the predicted high demand for electricity on the regional grid.

MiEnergy is calling for electricity conservation, with elevated peak demand leading to higher power costs during the Peak Alert. Members can help keep rates stable and affordable by conserving electricity during the Peak Alert period. Members enrolled in Interruptible Heating/Dual Fuel will have their heating equipment managed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. during this time.

You can conserve electricity by lowering the thermostat on heating systems to at least 68 degrees, lower if no one is home; running the dishwasher or doing laundry later in the evening; using a microwave instead of the oven to cook; and refraining from turning on televisions and gaming systems. Each small action can collectively make a big difference in the demand on the electric grid.

MiEnergy Cooperative maintains 5,500 miles of power lines covering most of Fillmore, Houston and Winona counties in Minnesota and Chickasaw, Howard and Winneshiek counties in Iowa. The cooperative also serves small pockets bordering those counties. It provides electricity to more than 19,200 members in northeastern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota.
