Floyd County SHIELD Hosts Naloxone, Overdose Training Thursday (01.30)
Naloxone and overdose training sessions are being offered this Thursday (01.30) in Charles City by Floyd County SHIELD.
That’s Pastor Matt Howlett of First Baptist Church, who invites area businesses, community organizations, and anyone “on the front lines” to attend the training that could help save lives.
Howlett says he counsels several people a week about substance addiction, but they’re not the only ones who could unexpectedly experience an opioid overdose.
Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare Counseling will conduct the Naloxone and Overdose training sessions Thursday at 10 am and 2 pm at the Charles City Public Library and 5 pm at First Baptist Church. Howlett notes that each session is a “stand alone” session, so you will not need to attend all three.
To register or for more information, contact Floyd County Public Health at 641-257-6111.

Floyd Co. SHIELD would like to extend an invitation to area businesses and community organizations to attend an upcoming Naloxone and Overdose training.
Naloxone is a reversal drug that can be administered by a lay person if they suspect an individual is experiencing an opioid overdose to assist in reversing the negative side effects from the drug and increase chances of survival before emergency services arrive to further care for the individual.
While many of us believe we will not have need of carrying this product nor actually using it, chances continue to increase that you will come across someone who could benefit from this life saving measure. In fact, the Iowa Drug Enforcement Agency reports that over 90% of illegal drugs, including over 90% of marijuana, now includes traces of fentanyl (very potent opioid).
Consider sending your human resource team, office nurses, supervisors or general staff to this free training. In addition, participants will receive a free Narcan nasal kit and be better equipped to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose.
