Eminent Domain, AEAs Lead Legislative Concerns for State Rep. Thomson

The 91st Assembly of the Iowa Legislature opens Monday (01.13).

House District 58 State Representative Charley Thomson of Charles City says priorities this session include continuing work on property tax reform as well as taxes in general.

Thomson is also hoping the House and Senate can work together on eminent domain reform in light of the permit approval last summer for Summit Carbon Solutions to build an underground carbon capture pipeline.

Thomson says that process should also include a review of the IUC itself.

In the last session, the House passed a bill for eminent domain reform, but the Senate did not take up a vote on the legislation, which then died.

House District 58 includes all of Chickasaw County and the majority of Floyd County.
