Can’t Have Your Cookie and Eat It, Too: FCMC Scammed
Apparently, not everyone can have their cookies and eat them, too.
Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) alerted visitors to their Facebook page on Wednesday (12.18) that an unofficial, spoofed FCMC account had been interacting with participants in the comments section for the Charles City hospital’s cookie giveaway.
FCMC warned, “DO NOT interact with the account, click on any links, or give away any of your information. Please report the comments as fraud/spam if they reach out to you IMMEDIATELY. If you provided your phone number, do NOT answer any phone calls.”
FCMC noted, “Our official FCMC cookie giveaway messages will NOT contain any links and we will not ask for your personal information. We will contact winners in a private message and give them instructions on where to pick up the cookies.
FCMC took down the post – Cookie Giveaway Three – for maximum caution, but did pull a random winner and will contact them directly.
FCMC added, “Safety is one of FCMC’s highest priorities, and we want to ensure that everyone who interacts with our account can do so without fear or being deceived. We are deeply saddened that this unfortunate event has transpired, and we are doing all that we can to mitigate the situation and to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
