New Hampton Police Department to Add K9 Unit
While the New Hampton Police Department (NHPD) continues to take applications to fill an open officer position, the NHPD knows they will be adding a four-legged member to the staff next summer.
Chief Conrad Rosendahl says they will launch a new K9 Unit thanks to the recent approval of a $12,000 grant from a program that helps one law enforcement agency in the Midwest each year purchase a canine.
Rosendahl notes that while the grant funding source is a great start, it won’t cover all their start-up costs.
It will cost between $30,000 and $35,000 to launch the K9 unit, which Rosendahl hopes will begin with dog and handler training next August.
To donate, contact the NHPD at 641-394-3241 or message the New Hampton Police Department on Facebook.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office is also currently raising money to start their own K9 Unit.
