Bridge Work Finished in Mason City, Continues at Waverly, Lansing

In September, a new bridge was opened over Flood Creek on Highway 14 near Roseville, about 10 miles southwest of Charles City.

A month later, a new bridge was opened over the Winters Lake Overflow on Highway 18, about halfway between Charles City and New Hampton.

About a month after that, on November 12th, a new bridge was finished for the eastbound lanes of Highway 122 on the west edge of Mason City, which the Iowa DOT’s Pete Hjelmstad says is the end of bridge construction in that area.

Meanwhile, work continues to build a new bridge over the Cedar River on Highway 3 in Waverly, where they recently poured a “test shaft” to measure structure and stability.

At Lansing, crews continue to construct a new bridge over the Mississippi River to connect Iowa and Wisconsin, where Hjelmstad says they are getting ready to do work in the water, minus the water.

Completion of the new Black Hawk Bridge at Lansing is targeted for as early as Fall 2026, with the new Highway 3 bridge in Waverly expected to finish in Fall 2025.
