North Iowa Woman Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse of Minor
A North Iowa woman, accused of sexual abuse of a minor, has now entered into a plea agreement and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
23-year-old Destiny Murphy of Mason City was accused of committing a sexual act with a child under the age of 14 on more than one occasion between April 2021 and April of this year.
Murphy was arrested on September 22nd and charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Murphy originally filed a written plea of not guilty to the charge, but as part of a plea deal with prosecutors agreed to plead guilty to two counts of lascivious acts with a child, each a Class C felony.
Tuesday (11.19), a Cerro Gordo County District judge sentenced Murphy to 10 years in prison on each charge, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
