Veterans Day Programs in Charles City, New Hampton, Nashua; Free Vets Meals

Charles City and Nashua-Plainfield FFA chapters will host Veterans Day programs Monday (11.11) to honor all veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. 

Nashua-Plainfield ceremonies begin at 8:40 am at the elementary building for veterans and active military members. A second program at 10 am in the Nashua-Plainfield High School gymnasium is open to veterans and the public.

The Charles City FFA Veterans Day program begins at 10:15 am in the Middle School gym, with ceremonies open to veterans and the public.

The program will also be broadcast on KCHA and live streamed on www.kchanews.com ( sponsored by Cambrex).

American Legion Fae Stine Post 38 invites the public and those who have served in the military to Veterans Day ceremonies at 11 am Monday morning in front of the Chickasaw County Courthouse in New Hampton.

Post Commander Brian Quirk says Chickasaw County Veterans Affairs Service Officer Keith Elenz will be the featured speaker. 

A free will donation meal will follow the program at the Chickasaw Event Center.

For a second veterans dining opportunity, also open to the public, Quirk says the Post’s annual Veterans Day dinner is from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday (11.17) at The Pub at the Pinicon in New Hampton. Proceeds from the drive-through or dine-in meal help fund American Legion community service projects.

All Hy-Vee grocery stores are offering a free Veterans Day breakfast to active-duty military and veterans Monday (11.11). 

A free buffet-style breakfast is available to all veterans and active-duty military members from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hy-Vee stores, including the Charles City location. Hy-Vee is marking its 25th anniversary of providing the free breakfast to veterans, a tradition that began in 1999 at the Hy-Vee in Belton, Missouri.

Additionally, veterans and active-duty military will receive 15% off their grocery purchases on Monday when they shop at Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh Market, and Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations.

Hy-Vee is also conducting its annual Hy-Vee Homefront Round Up, in which customers can round up their purchases, with money raised to support veterans, active-duty military members and their families. The fundraiser goes through this Sunday (11.17) at all Hy-Vee stores and Dollar Fresh Market stores. 

Hy-Vee will match all customer donations up to $100,000, with all proceeds benefiting Hope for the Warriors, Operation First Response, American Red Cross and the Puppy Jake Foundation.

Other Veterans Day specials Monday include the first drink free for veterans at the Charles City VFW (opens at 5:30 pm).

The Charles City Elks Lodge will also host a Veterans Pork Loin Dinner at 6 pm this Thursday (11.14) with all veterans eating for free.
