Hackman, Miller, Thomson Win Contested Races, Floyd County EMS Tax Levy Defeated
Chickasaw County Third District Supervisor Jacob Hackman has won a third term after the Republican incumbent held off Democratic challenger Joan Knoll on Tuesday (11.05).
Hackman received almost 55% of the ballots (651) to just over 45% of the votes for Knoll, the former Chickasaw County Auditor from 2008 to 2020.
In Floyd County, Republican Morrigan Miller defeated Democrat Liz Hamm in the race for County Auditor. Miller garnered 60% of the ballots to 40% for Hamm to replace current County Auditor Gloria Carr, who was set to retire when her term ends December 31st. However, she will instead continue to serve the County as the new District 1 Supervisor, with current Supervisor Mark Kuhn not seeking re-election. Car was unopposed.
While Carr will wait until January to assume her new role, Boyd Campbell will replace Jim Jorgensen next week as the new Floyd County District 3 Supervisor. Because Jorgensen was appointed to the post and opted not to run for re-election, Campbell will take over after results are canvassed..
District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer is the lone holdover on the Board.
Floyd County Sheriff Jeff Crooks won re-election, running unopposed.
In Chickasaw County, also winning unopposed races were Sheriff Ryan Shawver, Auditor Sheila Shekelton, First District Supervisor Steven Breitbach, and Issac Carter, who will take over the Fourth District Supervisor seat in January, with current Supervisor Matt Kuhn not seeking re-election.
The Floyd County EMS Tax Levy was defeated for the second time, failing to garner the 60% supermajority approval required for passage. 55% of the votes were NO, with only 45% YES.
