A great Charles City fall tradition returns on Monday, October 28th, with the annual SpookWalk along the riverfront trail, organized by Main Street Charles City. This year’s event will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. starting on the trail behind the Charles City Public Library and First Baptist Church, and winding its way under Brantingham Bridge and around some 30 decorated treat stations handing out treats in Riverfront Park.
This marks the 29th year for this event, with the 2024 theme being “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charles City,” in a spin on the famous Charlie Brown/Peanuts story. Various businesses and organizations will provide the treat stations, and children up through sixth grade and their families are welcome to traverse the SpookWalk in their Halloween costumes. The event is free of charge, although free will donations will be accepted at the starting line. Children must be accompanied by an adult and should dress for the weather at this outdoor event. Don’t forget your camera and something to put all your treats in!
A special Early Bird Start will be offered for youth with special needs or issue being in large crowds. You must pre-register with the Main Street Charles City office at (641) 228-2335 or [email protected] in order to take part in that early start. Any day of walkups will have to go through with the general public.
First Baptist Church will be offering free hot dogs and hot chocolate near the main church entrance while supplies last.
In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Tuesday, Oct. 29th, at the same time and place. Watch for announcements on the Main Street Charles City Facebook page (facebook.com/MSCCIA).
