Yvonne Kisch, 77, Charles City

Yvonne Kisch, 77, of Charles City, who was a cherished wife, mother, and friend, passed away on October 10, 2024. After a tough fought battle with brain cancer, she died peacefully at home surrounded by family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Yvonne Kisch at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating.

Visitation will be held at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. and a Scripture Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Yvonne leaves behind her devoted husband, James Kisch; two sons: Benjamin (Cathy Salinas) Kisch and Jeffrey (Julie) Kisch; and two daughters: Michelle (Brian) Sparrgrove and Wendy (Tim Livengood) Kisch. Her life exemplified love, kindness, and commitment to her family, friends, and community.

Born on March 24, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Yvonne Margaret (Glaser) Kisch graduated in 1965 from St. Michael High School in Pittsburgh and went on to study cosmetology. After meeting Jim at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA, they fell in love. They were united in marriage on March 24, 1972, in West Mifflin, PA and have been together for 52 years.

She had a fulfilling career in Charles City, dedicating 30 years of her professional life to Kmart, where she built lasting relationships and left a positive impact on everyone she worked with. In addition to her long tenure at Kmart, she also worked part-time at Dean Jewelers.

Outside of her professional life, she had a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers and gardening. She spent countless hours tending to her beautiful flowers in the city improvement planters. She loved being part of Stony Point Players, a local community theater group, which brought her great happiness.

She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she served on the Pastoral Council and Guild. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Yvonne was an Associate in the Sisters of the Presentation of Dubuque and served on the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was deeply involved in charitable work, including lectoring in church, organizing funeral lunches, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the local food pantry.

She was also a proud grandmother to Marisa Estelle, Brandon Sparrgrove, Mason Sparrgrove, Connor Livengood, and Nicholas Salinas. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her siblings: Bill (Linda) Glaser and David Glaser, both residing in West Mifflin, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret (Siksa) Glaser; her brother, Raymond Glaser; and her in-laws, Bernard and Marie Kisch.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered for her warm smile, generous spirit, and the countless memories she created with those she loved. May she rest in peace.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
