Fire Prevention Week 2024 Focus on Smoke Alarms

It’s Fire Prevention Week 2024.

Charles City Fire Chief Sam Deverell says this year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms – Make Them Work for You.”

Deverell also advises having smoke alarms throughout your home.

Deverell also recommends testing your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors once a month and to change batteries at least once a year. He adds that some newer models come with a 10-year battery life, which coincides with replacing your alarms every 10 years.

The Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) is also sharing fire prevention this week with students in the Charles City School District.

Fire Prevention Week officially ends this Saturday (10.12), but CCFD will cap the week with their annual All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast at the firehouse from 8 am to Noon this Sunday (10.13) for a free will donation.
