North Main/North Grand Intersection Re-Opened to Traffic

The latest sign the Main Street Rehab Project in Charles City is nearing completion is the removal of “Road Closed” signs at the reconfigured intersection of North Main Street and North Grand Avenue.
Bill Ries with Veenstra & Kimm, the project managers, says contractors completed paving operations on the north end in Phase 5 with the intermediate and surface layers being installed. They also began backfilling and grading sidewalk and curb areas, with the intersection reopened to traffic on Friday (09.06).
Ries adds that all of Main Street is expected to be open to traffic this week with very little construction activity anticipated. That will allow the Charles City School District to utilize the Main Street corridor for the Homecoming parade this Friday (09.13).
After that, Police Chief Hugh Anderson says the process of repaving the rest of Main Street will soon follow.
Ries says the remainder of asphalt work on Main Street is tentatively scheduled for mid to late-September and is expected to take two weeks to complete.
