Man Accused in Northeast Iowa Cold Case Murder Pleads Not Guilty

The man accused of murdering a teenager, last seen in northeast Iowa over seven years ago, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) arrested 65-year-old James Bachmurski in August in connection with the death of 15-year-old Jade Colvin. Investigators determined she was brought to Bachmurski’s home near Decorah in March 2017, with the last known text messages sent by Colvin and received by anyone occurring on March 30, 2017. She has not been spoken with or seen by any family or friends since.
Authorities say that during an interview with law enforcement in 2023, Bachmurski was asked if he remembered an image of Colvin. He allegedly responded, “I do. I’m not gonna lie, I do. As a matter of fact, I’ll guarantee you I’m getting myself in a lot of trouble. I want to tell you the truth.”
Friday (08.30), Bachmurksi entered a not guilty plea in Winneshiek County District Court and waived his right to a speedy trial. No trial date has been set.
He remains held without bond in the Winneshiek County Jail, where he was served an arrest warrant on Friday (08.30) for violation of his probation from his May 2013 convictions for willful injury causing serious injury and first-degree harassment.
Bachmurski is also facing a charge of possessing a firearm or weapon by a convicted felon from his arrest in Winneshiek County in January 2018.
