Campaign Trail Heats Up, Republican, Democratic Events Tuesday in Charles City

The campaign trail through the Charles City, New Hampton area is ramping up with the November General Election less than three months away.

The Floyd County Republican Party is inviting supporters of former President Donald Trump to climb on the “Trump Train” by lining up at 5:30 pm Tuesday (08.13) in the Theisens parking lot, with the train leaving at 5:45 pm. The Round Up of Floyd County GOP will then see the “train” travel throughout Charles City and Floyd County.

The event comes in the wake of Saturday’s (08.10) “Summer Freedom Festival” fundraiser on behalf of Iowa House District 58 State Representative Charley Thomson of Charles City. The event also featured appearances by Jeff Kaufmann, Chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, and House Speaker Pat Grassley.

Thomson’s Democratic challenger, Gail Allison, will make several area campaign stops this week, including a pair of Women’s Health Events featuring Dr. Emily Boevers, OB-GYN with Waverly Health Center, speaking about women’s health issues in light of Iowa’s six-week abortion ban. Allison’s first session starts at 7 pm Tuesday (08.130 night at the Floyd County Democrats office at 113 North Main Street in Charles City, with another starting at 7 pm Thursday (08.15) at the Chickasaw Event Center in New Hampton.

Last Friday, Jody Puffett of Delhi was in Charles City seeking signatures to get on the ballot to run as an independent against incumbent U.S. Second District Congressional Republican Ashley Hinson.

Puffet says she’s tired of government waste and wants to see more money come back to Iowa to better address the needs of the state.
