North Iowans Win $60,000 with Live Lottery Game Show At Iowa State Fair
Three North Iowans won a combined $60,000 on the opening night of the Iowa State Fair.
Thursday (08.08), the Iowa Lottery hosted their first ever “Fair Fever” live game show on the Grand Concourse of the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. A total of 20 contestants competed to win up to $5 million.
Contestants included Michelle Cerwinske of Nashua and Scott Stewart of Waterloo, who won $25,000 each, plus Ryan Habeger of Algona, who won $10,000. Each contestant was assured of winning at least $10,000, with Steven Stout of Indianola the big winner, scoring a prize of $500,000.
The Lottery also gave away another $60,000 to non-contestants during the game show.
Earlier this year, the “Iowa State Fair” scratch game was introduced, the first lottery product named for Iowa’s largest event. Players who didn’t win instant prizes could enter non-winning scratch tickets into “Fair Fever” for a chance to become a game show contestant or win Grandstand concert ticket prize packages.
The last time the Iowa Lottery gave away a prize of this size at a live event was in 2012, when a retired police officer won $1 million on the final day of the Iowa State Fair.
