Three North Iowans to Compete for $5 Million At Iowa State Fair Thursday (08.08)
Three North Iowans are among the 20 contestants who will compete to win up to $5 million on the opening day of this year’s Iowa State Fair
The Iowa Lottery says their “Fair Fever” promotion will conclude with the live game show starting at 5:30 pm Thursday (08.08) night on the Grand Concourse of the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Contestants slated to play include Michelle Cerwinske of Nashua, Ryan Habeger of Algona, and Scott Stewart of Waterloo.
Earlier this year, the “Iowa State Fair” scratch game was introduced, the first lottery product named for Iowa’s largest event. Players who didn’t win instant prizes could enter non-winning scratch tickets into “Fair Fever” for a chance to become a game show contestant or win Grandstand concert ticket prize packages.
Each contestant will win at least $10,000 and the finalist will take home at least $500,000, with a chance to win up to $5 million.
The last time the Iowa Lottery gave away a prize of this size at a live event was in 2012, when a retired police officer won $1 million on the final day of the Iowa State Fair.
The Lottery says non-game show contestants can also win prizes. The first 1,200 people to sign up for the drawing between 2 and 4 pm Thursday at the Lottery’s table near the administration building will be entered into Cash Fever crowd drawing.
When Cash Fever begins at 5:30 pm, the first first crowd winner will be drawn to win $5,000. During the game show, a second winner of $5,000 will be drawn followed by the final drawing for the winner of $50,000.
You’ll only have TWO MINUTES to come forward to claim your prize once your name is announced and you must be present to win.
