Reception for Retiring Former Charles City Fire Chief Friday (08.02)

The community is invited to help the Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) celebrate the long career and retirement of former Fire Chief Marty Parcher on Friday (08.02).

It will be the second attempt at retirement for Parcher, who came out of retirement to serve as interim chief after then-Chief Eric Whipple left the CCFD in December 2022 to become the director of the Emergency Management Agency in Cerro Gordo County.

In March, Parcher announced he was ready to retire again.

In June, the City tabbed Sam Deverell to succeed Parcher as Fire Chief. A Charles City graduate, Deverell recently moved his family back to Charles City from Pennsylvania after an extensive career in the military and fire service industry.

The Open House and reception for Parcher will be held from 3 to 5:30 pm Friday at the fire station.
