Sanitation Truck Destroyed by Fire Wednesday (07.31) Morning in Charles City

There were no injuries reported when a sanitation truck caught fire Wednesday (07.31) morning in Charles City.
The Charles City Fire Department says they were paged to a vehicle on fire in the 300 block of 13 Avenue shortly before 4:30 am. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, dispatch advised CCFD that all occupants were able to exit the vehicle safely.
Crews arrived on scene to find a Jendro residential garbage/recycling truck fully engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the company’s Angela Ferch says the truck is a total loss and the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
Ferch adds that Jendro has a different truck out picking up trash, but as of 11 am, they had not yet started on recycling, so there will be delays.
Floyd Volunteer Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, and Chatfield’s Towing also assisted at the scene.
