Asphalt Coming Next Month for Charles City Main Street Rehab

The rehabilitation of North Main Street in Charles City continues to pace slightly ahead of schedule.

City Administrator Steve Diers says the bulk of the curb and gutter work for the project is expected to be completed within the next couple of weeks which should allow for asphalt replacement to start in mid-August.

Diers says the City has decided not to pave the Main Street Bridge, with its life expectancy cut shorter following the flooding in June.

The almost 115-year-old bridge was closed for over two weeks after being bombarded by trees and debris from the swollen Cedar River with the flooding that began June 23rd. When it reopened, the City was advised to put a weight limit of 28-ton on the bridge.
