New Hampton, Sumner-Fredericksburg to Square Off in State Baseball Semis
Chickasaw County will be represented in Thursday’s (07.25) semifinals of the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament in Carroll.
Sumner-Fredericksburg advanced Tuesday (07.23) night with a 6-2 defeat of Wilton. The Cougars scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings as they upped their record to 24-4.
Davis Van Sickle, Ty VanEngelenburg, McKoy Nuss, and Kallen Wilharm all had two hits each for Sumner-Fred, which now will meet New Hampton in the semifinals Thursday night at 7 pm.
The Chickasaws advanced with an 11-1, 6-inning win over Aplington-Parkersburg in their quarterfinals matchup Tuesday night. New Hampton led just 2-1 going to the bottom of the sixth, but then tallied nine runs in the bottom of the frame to close the game.
Kael Meyers pitched four scoreless innings to get the win and had four hits to drive in three runs. Caden Rochford went three-for-three at the plate for the Chickasaws.
New Hampton improves to 28-6. Aplington-Parkersburg closes its season at 18-8.
