Sentencing Date Set for Convicted North Iowa Cop Killer

A sentencing date has been set for the North Iowa man convicted of killing Algona Police officer Kevin Cram.
43-year-old Kyle Ricke of Algona was convicted Thursday (07.11) of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Cram last September. Prosecutor Scott Brown says he was pleased with the outcome by a Dickinson County jury.
Brown says having Cram’s dash and body cam video of the shooting was key.
Ricke’s defense counsel argued the shooting was not premeditated, but Brown says they proved otherwise.
Brown says the Cram family is relieved that Ricke is being held accountable, but there is still a ways to go in the healing process. He adds that the family will have a chance to share their feelings during sentencing, now set for August 21st, back in Kossuth County.
The trial was held in Dickinson County on a change of venue due to pre-trial publicity
Cram, a Nora Springs Police officer from 2013 to 2015, was just 33.
