Chickasaw County Gets Disaster Declaration

A state disaster proclamation has been issued for Chickasaw and Wright counties in response to storms and flooding.

Governor Kim Reynolds’ proclamation will activate state resources to respond to and recover from the effects of severe weather on July 4th and after.

Potential applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, which provides grants for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level.  Grants are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses.

As of July 1, the award amount for that program has increased from $5,000 to $7,000, although the increase is not retroactive.

The Disaster Case Advocacy Program addresses serious needs related to disaster-related hardship, injury, or adverse conditions. It closes 180 days from the date of the governor’s proclamation
