Charles City Goes Into Cleanup Mode in Wake of Flood
While a Flood Warning remains in effect until Wednesday (06.26) morning for the Cedar River in Charles City, the City is now into cleanup mode.
During the flood update Monday (06.24) evening, City Administrator Steve Diers noted that the City had reached its peak water level earlier in the day.
According to the National Weather Service, the river is expected to fall below flood stage of 12 feet by late Tuesday (06.25) evening and continue falling to 4.5 feet by next Monday (07.01).
Diers said the City will switch to cleanup mode.
Diers also said residents can begin disposing of sandbags.
The City announced at about 10:30 am Tuesday (06.25) morning that the Shaw Avenue Dump is now open for the drop off of sandbags.
To volunteer to help pick up sandbags or assist with cleanup, please contact the Floyd County Emergency Management at 641-257-6144.
At about 10 am Tuesday morning, the Charles City Street Department announced that all streets and roads in the City that had been closed by flood waters have been reopened, including South Grand Avenue.
The Main Street Bridge remains closed until it can be inspected for safety.
Diers said Monday night’s Facebook Live update would be the final one of this flood event.
