With the drought in northeast Iowa declared “busted†a few weeks ago, sections of the area deemed “abnormally dry†continue to decrease as well, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa.
Based on precipitation through 7 am Tuesday, June 11th, the southeastern third of Chickasaw County is rated in the D0 category for abnormally dry, while the rest of the county is drought free. Other areas still deemed abnormally dry include all of Fayette and Buchanan counties, the eastern half of Bremer County, eastern two-thirds of Black Hawk County, southern half of Winneshiek County and southern fifth of Allamakee.
Remaining sections of those counties are no longer in drought, as are all of Floyd, Howard, Mitchell, Franklin, Cerro Gordo and Butler counties.
