Charles City Arboretum Christened with Ribbon Cutting

Ribbon cutting ceremonies were conducted recently (05.31) for the Garden Corridor Edible Arboretum in Charles City.

City Administrator Steve Diers says the Arboretum, located along Clark Street between South Grand Avenue and B Street, is a permeable paver demonstration project that Mother Nature essentially set in motion over a decade-and-a-half ago.

The Arboretum was pushed forward by the Clark Street Garden Corridor Committee, represented by Wendy Johnson.

Ann Seda, urban conservationist with the Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship, says she uses the Charles City Arboretum as an example of water quality protection practices when touting similar projects across the state.

About $140,000 of the some $180,000 project price tag was paid for through DNR and Water Quality Initiative grants.
